Project Mic Drop: Text to speech in micro-learning with the DITA L&T specialization

Has your content ever talked back to you? Ours does.

With DITA and the Learning and Training (L&T) specialization, it is easy to render content into student guides, trainer guides, assessments, and slides, but that is not enough anymore. Learners and their employers often don’t have the time and money to attend traditional, instructor-led training. They want micro-learning that teaches them the one thing they need to know right now. And, on top of that, it needs to be engaging and fun.

With our partners, Vasont Systems and Dakota Systems, we at Nokia are transforming our traditional training content into responsive HTML5 micro-learning objects that include narration with Amazon Text to Speech (TTS) voices.

Where?

Are you planning to attend CMS / DITA North America? Join Dakota Systems, NOKIA, and Vasont on April 26 at 9:20 AM to hear a presentation on the non-traditional uses for DITA in the NOKIA training department.

What can the audience expect to learn?

In addition to learning how Nokia has been using the DITA L&T specialization in Vasont to develop and manage our traditional training content, we will describe the structural changes we needed to make to the content to enable the creation of HTML5 output with TTS.

We demonstrate the output and talk about the benefits and challenges of this novel approach.
