Features

DCP provides funtionality to support content authoring, content management and adaptive publishing to live support and e-commerce sites.

  • "Headless" installation serves as XML content and reference (e.g. images, other media) repository exposed as a shared drive.

  • XML editor agnostic (can use FrameMaker, oXygen, etc.).

  • Supports storage of documentation in any file format (e.g. Word, PowerPoint, unstructured FrameMaker, etc.).

  • Serves as a content repository, publishing server (PDF, HTML), and SharePoint (or other system) integration endpoint.

  • Allows XML to be indexed library-wide to provide for future content reporting enhancements (e.g. content re-use reports, broken reference reports, ad-hoc content analysis, etc.).

  • Non-proprietary content model: all content is stored in its native format and can be exported at any time.

Content Authoring

Authoring Application

Responsibility for authoring, reviewing, and ownership of content can span across departments, functions, trading partners, and countries, in multiple languages. DCP provides a single, integrated environment for creating, contributing, reviewing, and revising structured content.

DCP includes the oXygen Editor – a user-friendly XML editor that looks and feels like a word processing application. oXygen offers:

  • Collaboration between authors, content contributors and reviewers

  • Out-of-the-box DITA, S1000D and SPL

  • Single-source publishing capabilities

  • Out-of-the-box integration with most XML content repositories

DITA Structured Authoring

DITA is an XML standard that has gained widespread acceptance as an information architecture for technical manuals, training, reference materials, and other types of content. DITA helps authors focus on content creation instead of formatting, and provides a standard for content interchange and interoperability between authoring tools, CCMSs, and publishing components. DITA can be specialized to support new types of content, providing a basis for building custom content applications.

Dakota implements custom DITA solutions that support customer-specific requirements, such as publishing technical manuals, product specifications, industry standards, marketing collateral, and knowledge bases. DCP supports DITA authoring and publishing out of the box, providing a scalable platform for content reuse, localization, dynamic content distribution, and single-source publishing.

Content Management

The DCP CCMS is built upon a native XML database, providing a customizable platform for content management, transformation, reuse, search and retrieval, workflow, and single-source publishing.

XML content and digital assets are stored in a central repository in a single-source format, separated from any format-specific data. This approach allows one source of the truth for content, and any updates can be pushed automatically to a variety of distribution channels. This concept, known as “single-sourcing”, is central to Dakota’s content management philosophy.

Single-sourcing is a secure and efficient way to create, maintain, and publish content. A central repository allows for individual content components to have their own lifecycles for review, revision, and localization, and their own policies for ownership, tagging, and version control. Document components can be reused and shared across multiple documents. This enables one composite “document” to be edited and maintained by multiple users. Reuse of content components assures accuracy and consistency, eliminates the possibility of version mismatch, reduces miscommunication, and minimizes redundant work.

DCP enables:

  • Content management from a single source

  • Secure check-in / check-out

  • Component content reuse

  • Version control and revision history

  • Review and publishing workflow

  • PDF, ePub, HTML, CHM, WebHelp and mobile formats fro ma single source

  • Content metrics reporting and visualization

Faceted Search

DCP helps organizations organize and manage large volumes of content. DCP maintains a consistent database, making it easier to search for content. DCP’s faceted search interface can be customized specifically to meet unique customer requirements for appearance and facets.

Every XML component and digital asset stored in the database can be tagged with metadata to define what the content is and what it’s about. DCP Search indexes content into facets based on the metadata. Metadata can include subject, audience, title, text, author, or any customized facet (e.g. product, industry, company, etc.). The DCP faceted search interface enables authors, reviewers, and readers to filter the entire contents of the repository to find exactly the content they need.

Adaptive Publishing

Adaptive publishing provides the ability to automatically generate output to multiple formats from a single source stored in a central repository.

Dakota has helped our customers publish content in a wide array formats and layouts, customized to fit their unique standards and formatting specifications. Adaptive Publishing assures consistency and helps maintain branding – whether for basic publishing or complex, multilingual publications – and helps speed time-to-market, eliminate production problems, and avoid formating conflicts.
